FA youngstock processing

Processing is generally done to improve the health and wellbeing of the animals or of the herd in general. It can include both surgical (castration, disbudding, tail docking) and nonsurgical components (vaccination, deworming). We will concentrate on castration, disbudding and dehorning.

In most herds and flocks, producers will carry out these procedures. Veterinarians will be involved with pet animals, small holders, and rescue groups. Vets may also be involved in training or re-training programs. Standards are changing so re-training may be more common in the near future.
