Tracheal disorders

collapsed trachea

Tracheal disorders are rare in horses with the exception of tracheal collapse in miniature horses.  Tracheal collapse leads to respiratory noise and exercise intolerance. Surgical stenting has been performed as in small animals, with limited success.

Tracheal perforation can occur with trauma and is treated conservatively and/or with a temporary tracheotomy
