Unit 7: Politics in India

This unit aims to give students some background knowledge of the current state of Indian politics and the political system through an interview with an Indian politician, Kejriwal who is the Chief Minister of Delhi State, and a report about a group of school children who interviewed Narendra Modi. The content is also drawn from Jawaharlal Nehru’s speech about communalism, and a speech about corruption from the crusader of the anti-corruption movement, Anna Hazare. Within the last few years, India has seen a new wave of changes, such as the rise of the Bharatiya Janta Party at the national level, and the Aam Aadmi Party (Common Man’s Party) in Delhi state.

The unit will also provide a brief introduction to the architect of the constitution, Dr. Ambedkar, and give a snapshot of various political parties, political slogans, and a jingle.
