Unit 2: Pop Culture

The goal of this unit is for students to have exposure to various aspects of Indian pop culture. This unit includes texts for reading and listening practice with regard to various pop culture categories, such as a TV talk show, weather forecast, recipe, magazines, Hindi film, film actor, pop singer, super hero, and an advertisement. Indian sports and politics will be introduced exclusively in their respective units, so they are excluded in this unit. In addition to improving linguistic proficiency, students will acquire broad knowledge of social and cultural aspects of India in the fields of mass culture, media and consumer cultures. Activities focused on interpersonal, presentational and interpretive modes are provided to increase communication skills in the target language.
