Grammar point 5.5. Hindi Compound Verb Construction 5
Hindi Compound verb (V1 V2 construction, past participial form of V1 + करना V2 = to keep on V1) as in मैं कल से ठन्डे पानी से नहाया करूँगा।
This construction is composed of two verbs (V1V2). V1 is in the past participial form of a verb, and any verb can occur as V1. Only करना can occur as V2, and V2 receives all the inflections for tense, number and gender of the subject. The participial form of the V1 has to be in the masculine singular of a past participial form, regardless of the number and gender of the subject.
तुम हमारे यहाँ आया करो।
हम पहले हर शनिवार बाहर खाना खाया करते थे ।
वह आजकल सुबह देर तक सोया करती है।
नौकरानी चाय बनाया करती थी ।
प्रिया अपनी माँ को रोज़ पत्र लिखा करती है।
(Ex.5.1) Rewrite the following sentences using the compound verb construction (V1 + करना)[1]
Example: वे हर गर्मियों में भारत घूमने जाते हैं। वे हर गर्मियों में भारत घूमने जाया करते हैं।
- वह जल्दी सोता था।
- मैं (f.) पियानो बजाऊँगी।
- तुम मेरे घर आओ।
- हम हर शनिवार क्रिकेट खेलते हैं।
- क्या आप घर में खाना बनाती थीं।

Example: वह रात को देर तक फ़िल्में (देखना करना। वह रात को देर तक फ़िल्में देखा करता था।
