Chapter 5 – Quadratics, Polynomials and Rational Expressions

Topic 5.15 – Graphing Rational Functions

Graphing Rational Functions uses the y-intercept, x-intercepts, vertical asymptotes and end behavior to sketch graphs of rational functions similar to curve sketching in a calculus course. Oblique asymptotes are discussed briefly. It is assumed that students either know how to carry out long division of polynomials, or use technology to perform the division.
