Insulin Syringes- IMPORTANT!!! Difference between U 100 and U 40 insulin DIFFERENT CONCENTRATION!

 

Veterinary Insulin like Vetsulin is prepared in a concentration of 40 units/millilitre and correspondingly use U 40 syringes red cap

Human use Insulin is prepared in a specific concentration of 100 units/millilitre, and correspondingly, use U 100 syringes, orange cap

**ALWAYS GO OVER DOSAGE AND SYRINGES WITH OWNERS IN PERSON**

**AND HAVE CLIENTS DRAW UP A GIVEN DOSAGE TO BE SURE THEY KNOW HOW TO READ THE SYRINGE**

 

Difference between U100 Orange cap and U40 Red cap

Red top syringe is 40 units/ml as this is a 1/2 ml syringe holds 20 units

Orange top    syringe is 100 units/ml as this is a 1/2 ml syringe holds 50 units

An occasional emergency may arise if client runs out of U 40 syringes and can not purchase at a pharmacy-see chart below for conversion
