Different types of Syringes

Different Tip types on syringes

Regular or Luer-base sl. wider than tip to fit needle snugly. Recommend righty tighty, lefty loosey to place and remove needle

Luer Lock– threaded tip most secure recommended for chemo therapy and when important that needle stay on if under pressure etc…

Eccentric-tip on one side of syringe, convenient if using for intradermal block as can get lower angle more easily or IV injections

Catheter– Wide base and cone shape to fit into urinary catheters which have fluted end

Toomey–  wider opening straight tip-fits well onto feeding tubes, also used for wound irrigation.  Some include loop on the plunger for easier one handed operation.

Curved Tip Syringe
Curve Tipped Syringe curve tip for flushing wounds or instilling Anal Glands

When choosing size of syringe-generally match the size to the amount of fluid being drawn out or instilled.  Remember if you use a syringe too large for a smaller vein the suction may collapse the vein.  Sizes range from tiny insulin syringes to 60 ml syringes and larger.
