Lesson 1: What is Generative AI?
Generative AI (GenAI) tools use complex algorithms and vast data sets to create new content.
GenAI tools have many capabilities, but also limitations and environmental impacts. To use them effectively and ethically, we need to know more about what powers them and how they work.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this learning experience, learners will be able to
- define key terms related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (GenAI).
- describe how AI systems are created and trained.
- articulate the key capabilities, limitations and environmental considerations of Generative AI.
You can navigate through the module using the Next and Previous links at the bottom of the screen, or with the “Content” menu in the navigation.
A type of AI that can create new, original content (like text, images, audio, or code) that resembles real-world data it was trained on.
A set of rules or instructions followed by a computer to solve a problem.
A collection of data; a machine-readable file of related records.
The broad field of computer science that enables machines to simulate human intelligence, including learning, problem-solving, perception, and language understanding.
The dataset used to teach an AI model.
