Building on what you already know
You probably already know a lot about using Generative AI (GenAI) . GenAI is a type of AI that can create new, original content (like text, images, audio, or code) that resembles real-world data it was trained on.
You’ve likely already used GenAI for academic and personal reasons – you’ve probably used, or heard of tools like Grammarly to help with your writing skills or Otter.ai to help with notetaking.
Maybe you’ve asked Google Gemini “Are Labubus really based on the demon Pazuzu?”
Maybe you’ve used ChatGPT to help settle arguments with your friends, to meal plan, or to set a study schedule.
Feelings on GenAI use varies from AI skeptics to AI enthusiasts. And that’s okay!
The goal of GenAI+U: a student learning experience is not to tell you how to use GenAI. The goal is to give you the tools to be an effective, ethical and responsible user of GenAI.
This learning experience is not meant to be completed in a single session, though you may choose to do that. Each lesson should take around 30 minutes to complete.
The videos generally cover the same content as the text.
You will be engaging with real responses from Generative AI tools, such as prompt responses and images. These are all cited within the lessons.
There is also an acknowledgement in the appendix of where AI was used to help create GenAI+U. There are case studies along the way that will help you apply what you are learning.
The hope is that after completing this learning experience, you will have a enhanced critical understanding of AI and how you can (if you want to) use AI in your academic and everyday life.
