28 Case Study: revisiting Amina, Diego and Joe

Revisiting the case study of Amina, Joe, and Dominic from Lesson 2

Amina, Dominic, and Joe collaborated on a public policy assignment about protected speech on college campuses. Joe introduced a Generative AI tool and uploaded a dataset of campus speech incidents without checking for permissions or copyrights, which concerned Amina. Dominic used the GenAI to summarize a legal argument, but the output was nearly identical to the original text. Amina then noticed the GenAI’s summaries of controversial speech disproportionately featured students of color, while Dominic found that the GenAI missed key points when summarizing articles they uploaded. The group also faced issues of fairness, as Joe’s premium GenAI tools gave his sections an unfair advantage in writing his portions of the assignment.

UPDATE

The team decided to use Joe’s GenAI tool to polish all of the sections of the assignment, to make it more fair. They also asked the GenAI tool to improve the legal scholar article summary to make it sound less like the original text. Once they were finished, Amina uploaded their project into an AI presentation generator so they could have a presentation ready to go for class.
