Lesson 3: Learning with GenAI

Relying on AI tools can change the way you learn, how well you think critically, and the skills you develop. In your academic life, there are appropriate ways and inappropriate ways to use AI, and it’s important to know how to make the judgement.

One of the biggest questions everyone has – from new students to experienced professors – is how using GenAI impacts learning. Is GenAI making learning easier or harder?

You might have seen news stories about students using AI to do all their coursework, or even creating AI bots to finish assignments for them. In these cases, it may seem like getting the grade is more important than the learning experience.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this learning experience, learners will be able to

  • identify ways that AI tools can impact learning, critical thinking, and skill development.
  • differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate uses of AI and how to find balance.
  • explain the implications of GenAI use for academic integrity at the University.
