Lesson 2: Ethical use of and responsible engagement with Generative AI

Using GenAI tools comes with important responsibilities in both academic and everyday life.

We know that what AI creates isn’t always accurate. It is important to think and act critically by fact-checking GenAI output. When you use GenAI, it’s essential to consider how you’re using it in a responsible way.

In this lesson, we’ll explore some key questions:

  • How does using GenAI tools affect our coursework and daily lives, and what are our ethical duties?
  • How can GenAI, accidentally spread or increase unfair biases?
  • How can we figure out if the information GenAI gives us is reliable and trustworthy?

Learning Objectives

At the end of this learning experience, you will be able to

  • identify key ethical concerns related to AI use, including copyright and intellectual property, data bias and transparency, output reliability, privacy, equity, and academic integrity.
  • critically evaluate the reliability and accuracy of AI-generated content.
  • apply strategies for fact-checking and analyzing AI output.
