Book Description

Communication technologies make it easier than ever to miscommunicate, and misunderstand, people from around the world.  Technologies for trade and for war make it easier than ever for us to share both prosperity and violence. Now, more than ever, university faculty and administrators have a unique responsibility to prepare our students for tomorrow. This collection demonstrates the Power of One – one teacher, one researcher, one administrator – to make change on their campus and to make change in the hearts and minds of our students. This collection shares success stories in developing programs, redesigning courses, and building a better tomorrow through international education.

International Education sits at the intersection of multiple areas of university life.  It sits squarely in the curriculum, but often dispersed, as faculty from History, Political Science, Communication, Business, and the Sciences each approach internationalizing the curriculum differently.  It also sits squarely in student services, where staff work to ensure that students from abroad and students who go abroad are supported in their experiences.  And it sits at the core of the mission of the university, as it must prepare its graduates for life, work, and love in an increasingly diverse workplace and world.

This collection points us toward, and celebrates, the power of the individual to enact change in their institution and in the hearts and minds of their students, from wherever they are situated in the university.
