This text is an attempt to compile the latest information available on how to teach and learn motor skills efficiently and effectively by following brain learning principles.

This textbook was created to accompany an introductory-biology course of the same name, however we hope to appeal to any reader interested in learning, in a free, interactive environment, the basics of the following introductory-level topics: process of science, evolution, molecular genetics, inheritance, the evolution of sex, sexual selection, and finally, how babies are made. A 13-week laboratory curriculum accompanies the original course at the University of Minnesota. Lab resources are available through Bluedoor publishers at https://www.bluedoorpublishing.com/. This book covers the major topics within the study of trigonometry, including vectors and their applications.

This book provides a brief introduction to some common ideas in the study of probability. At the University of Minnesota, this material is included in a course on College Algebra designed to give students the basic skills to take an introductory Statistics course. The material itself is basic, and should be within the grasp of students who have successfully completed a high school Algebra I course.

Communicating Fashion offers a holistic view of the interrelationships involved in trend research, including data collection, analysis and reporting, and forecasting what that direction means for design. The book’s primary focus is on the process of observing and collecting desk and field data to understand interrelationships among products, user experience, and contextual factors.

The book also focuses on finding ways to effectively communicate predicted trends and possible new product opportunities. Trend research can be change-making, and the aim is to change according to effective use of those resources we have at hand to ultimately communicate a message that the user needs and wants to hear.

The authors of these chapters are faculty and instructors from the University of Minnesota System whose proposals to pursue innovative undergraduate teaching and learning at the course or curricular level were awarded grants through the Provost’s “Experiments in Learning Innovations” or “Digital Technology” initiatives. Working within teams that included teaching and technology consultants, each project engaged in formative design and research across 12 to 18 months, with several teams opting to contribute a scholarship of learning and teaching chapter for this monograph.

Collectively, the authors in this volume demonstrate a commitment to on-going responsiveness to challenges, and a desire to incorporate opportunities made available by technological developments. Many authors also reflect on the ways that relationships between teachers and their students, as well as between teachers in and beyond one’s home department, are critically important in fostering student learning.

Readers – including future faculty, as well as current instructors, faculty, administrators, regents and legislators – will benefit from this collection of articles for their attention to learners, complex learning, practicable pedagogy, and curricular experimentation.
