Taiwan: Hsiu-Lian Wang

Born in 1929, Hsiu-Lian Wang is the first post-war Taiwanese woman registered as an architect in Tainan City, Taiwan (1953). She studied architecture at the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan City. After graduation, she was employed by NCKU as a teaching assistant. Hsiu-Lian Wang was a guest speaker at “Seventy Years: National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Architecture Exhibition and Forum,” an event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the NCKU Department of Architecture and the achievements of their alumni through speeches and an exhibition of previous students’ architectural works (2013). She was recognized by the Women of Architecture Taiwan in their article, “From Others to Home-makers: Seeing Women in Architecture — The Inauguration Meeting of WAT,” published in Taiwan Architecture magazine (2018).
