Sudan: Zainab O. M. Gaafar
Born in Oman, Zainab O. M. Gaafar is a Sudanese architect and the founder and general manager of Studio Urban, a multidisciplinary research studio in Khartoum, Sudan, that focuses on urban studies research, consultancy, media production, and mapping. Gaafar holds a bachelor’s of architecture and a master’s of building technology from the University of Khartoum in Khartoum, Sudan. In addition to her role at Studio Urban, in 2023 she also began working as a lead designer for Safeguarding Sudan’s Living Heritage. Her previous professional experience includes working as the Sudan’s Country Reporter for the World Architecture Community Country (2017–2021), and she co-founded Roshan Engineering in Sudan (2015–2019).
