South Sudan: Joyce Okeny

Joyce Okeny, an architect from South Sudan, served as a County Inspector of Works on the Local Governance and Service Delivery (LOGOSEED): Institutional Strengthening of Local Governments project, which concluded in 2018. The project was implemented on behalf of the government of South Sudan by Cowater International. Okeny was interviewed for the article “My Fear is My Strength,” published by Cowater International (2019). During the interview, she mentioned that she is the first in her family to pursue a career as an architect, identified societal challenges that women architects encounter in South Sudan, and advocated for girls who want to pursue a career in engineering and architecture.
