Saint Kitts and Nevis: Dr. Daphne Hobson

Born in Nevis, Dr. Daphne Hobson participated in the development of the first draft of an Architects’ Registration Bill (c. 1996–1999), which eventually led to the proposal to charter (c. 2002) and then establish the St. Kitts-Nevis Institute of Architects (c. 2005). She holds a bachelor’s of architecture from the Edinburgh University in Edinburgh, Scotland; a master’s in historic preservation from the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vertmont; and a PhD in architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia (2007). Dr. Hobson has worked as an architect, historic preservationist, and scholar. She is a board member of the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society (NHCS). She is also a member of Women in Construction in Saint Kitts-Nevis; in affiliation with this organization, she served as a facilitator for the “Non-Traditional Occupation of Women (NOW)” workshop organized in collaboration by the Ministry of Health and Gender Affairs and Women in Construction in Saint Kitts-Nevis (2021). Dr. Hobson has completed projects for clients that include the St. Kitts and Nevis government, the Caribbean Development Bank, the United States Agency for International Development, and the European Development Fund.
