Northern Ireland: Johann Muldoon
Born in Castlederg, Northern Ireland, Johann Muldoon is the first woman architect in Northern Ireland awarded an MBE (2017). She is a RIBA specialist conservation architect, and she works as an architect and managing director of Manor Architects in Moneymore, Northern Ireland; the firm won the Architect of the Year Awards issued by The Architecture Community (TAC Awards, 2022) and Silver Stevie Awards at the International Business Awards (2020). Muldoon holds a bachelor’s of science (Hons) in architecture from Queen’s University Belfast in Belfast, Northern Ireland (1999), and a diploma in architecture and master in architecture from the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow, Scotland. As a student at Queens University Belfast, she earned the Andrew Forester Award for Top Student, and the John Trewsdale Award for Building Technology. She also works in academia as a lecturer at the University Ulster in Belfast.
Muldoon served as a judge for the Building and Architect of the Year Awards (2026 and 2025). In affiliation with Manor Architects, Muldoon earned numerous awards. Amongst her accomplishments, she was shortlisted for “Service Industries Entrepreneur of the Year” at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards (2024), named “UK Director of the Year” at the Inspiring Women in Business Awards (2020), “Female Executive of the Year” at the Globee Business Awards (2020), and named a finalist for “Business Woman of the Year” by Ulster Tatler (2014) and for “Business Person of the Year” by CC&G Council (2014). Muldoon was named the “Best Woman Architect in Europe” by the Women in Construction and Engineering (WICE) Awards (2017), “Graduate of the Year” by the Queen’s Graduates’ Association (QGA) at the Queen’s University Belfast (2017), and “Best in Professional Service” award by Women in Business Northern Ireland (WIBNI, 2013); she also earned a ” STEM Rising Star” Regional Award (2017) and a civic award for her contributions to business by Mid Ulster Council (2012).
