Nigeria : Joy Nwanyelimaka Nsolo

Born in 1932, Joy Nwanyelimaka Nsolo was the third woman to register as an architect in Nigeria, after Adenrele Henrietta Adekola and Patricia Nelly Fola. She studied at the Nigerian College of Arts, Science, and Technology in Zaria, Nigeria, before transferring to the University of Birmingham in Birmingham, England, where she graduated in 1962. Nsolo worked for the Mid Western Nigeria Civil Service, where she was promoted to the position of chief architect and then permanent secretary before her retirement (1986). She was an associate member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and a member of the Nigeria Institute of Architects. Nsolo was named a Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) by President Shehu Shagari in 1981. She died in 1988.
