Lithuania: Elena Nijolė Bučiūtė

Born in 1930 in Kaunas, Lithuania, Elena Nijolė Bučiūtė was awarded the Order of the Knight of Architecture by the Lithuanian Union of Architects (2000). She held a diploma in architecture from the Faculty of Architecture at the Institute of Arts of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic (1953). After graduation she worked as an architect at the the Institute of Urban Construction (1953–1975), and was promoted to chief project architect (1971–1975). Bučiūtė then transitioned her career to academia, lecturing at the Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute (1976-) and later earning the rank of professor (1989–1991). She established E.N. Bučiūtė creative studio (1994), and competed in various architectural design competitions. Bučiūtė earned the Lithuanian SSR State Prize (1980), and the Lithuanian SSR Architecture Prize (1989 and 1974). She died in 2010 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
