Haiti: Magali Régis
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and raised from middle school through high school in Rome, Italy, Magali Régis is the first US-licensed Haitian woman architect; she became a registered architect in New York state (1993). Régis holds a diploma in architecture from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York; she also studied historic and contemporary Italian architecture in Rome, Italy (1980).
Régis is the founder and president of the Haiti Initiative for Building Innovative and Sustainable Communities (2010), a non-profit based in New York City, New York, that focuses on solving environmental challenges in Haiti through long-term sustainable planning and design. She is also the founder and principal architect of e_space design in New York City. Régis has served as a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), including the AIA New York Fellows Committee (2024–), and the United States Green Building Council. She has also been an advocate for the protection of green spaces in New York City and serves on the board of directors for the New York City Community Garden Coalition (2005–). She is LEED APBD+C certified.
