Dominica: Ellen Abraham
Born in the Commonwealth of Dominica, Ellen Abraham holds a bachelor’s of architecture from The City University of New York in New York City (2010) and a master’s of business administration (MBA) from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts (2015). She also earned a property management certificate from the New York Institute of Technology in New York City (2008). After graduation, Abraham worked at various architectural firms in New York City before establishing BeU Design Studio (2013-2017). She was selected as the Forefront Fellow at the Urban Design Forum (2021), and worked for Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill, where she co-founded the Equity Design Lab (2020–2024), before moving to KSQ Design (2024–). She is a member of the board of directors for the Project for Public Spaces (2024-), and a member of the New York Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects, where she served on the Executive Board for Finance Management (2020–2021). Abraham has also been a member of the Advisory Finance Committee for the AIA New York Center for Architecture (2022–2024), and an advisor with Out of Architecture. Her work was featured in the exhibition “Say it Loud,” organized by Pascale Sablan at the 2018 AIA Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
