British Virgin Islands: Lavina Liburd
Born in St. Kitts and Nevis, Lavina Liburd is the founder and principal architect of TigerQi Architecture in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and a licensed architect in California, United States. She holds a bachelor’s of architecture from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida (1998), and a master’s of science in architecture, with a concentration in environmental design and urbanism in developing countries, from the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley (2008). Liburd worked in California until relocating to Tortola, where she worked as a project architect for OBM International (2006–2012) before establishing her own architectural firm (2012–). She has served as a member (2008) and president (2019–2020) of the Rotary Club of Road Town in Tortola, as a member of the Virgin Islands Architects and Engineers Association (c. 2019–), and as President of Business for the British Virgin Island Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association (c. 2021). She was featured in the book 100 Women Architects in Practice (2023), and earned International Property Awards (2019 and 2018).
