Bangladesh: Nazma Anwar

Born in 1943 in Rajshahi, Nazma Anwar is considered one of the first women architects in Bangladesh. She earned a bachelor’s of architecture from the Faculty of Architecture at the East Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology (EPUET) in Dhaka, East Pakistan (now known as Bangladesh University of Engineering at Technology in Dhaka, Bangladesh). She was one of three women selected for the first bachelor’s of architecture cohort at the institution (c. 1962). Anwar worked at Vastukalabid, an architectural consulting firm established by architect Muzharul Islam in Dhaka, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). After relocating to Mymensingh, she worked as a project architect for Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh, where she was responsible for overseeing the implementation of designs by architect Paul Rudolph.
