Book Description

This project was inspired by the 20th anniversary of the Minnesota Institute, previously the Minnesota Institute for Early Career Librarians from Traditionally Underrepresented Groups (MIECL).

The book serves an informative role, particularly for potential and early career librarians. It presents candid stories from BIPOC professionals, detailing the paths their careers have taken and the values they hold dear. These narratives provide insight and guidance, offering a valuable resource for those embarking on or navigating their way through a career in the library sciences field.

We wanted to center the project around individuals’ experiences since attending the Institute, and asked for testimony, reflection, or creative expression in the format of their choice. We encouraged:

  • personal reflection without a required thesis or performed outcome
  • testimony about difficult elements of and experiences in the profession
  • creative expressions that are not linear or logic-based writing
