1 GI Lessons Project
GI Project Goals
Purpose
The primary purpose of this activity is to reinforce the material by having you “teach” it virtually to a future group of learners. This requires application, processing and reinterpretation. These activities help consolidate the information in your long term memory.
The secondary purpose is to expand the opportunities for other learners to have access to veterinary related topics. Remember when you decided you wanted to be a veterinarian – think about that future “you” and create something they would find exciting!
Objectives
- In a small group, explore more deeply an interesting topic of GI pathology or function in order to consolidate the related course material in your brain
- Create a means of teaching this material to others in order to ensure you have a full understanding of the topic
Skills
- Translate veterinary speak into language and/or analogies that you audience can understand
- Explore new ways of presenting material that might be of use for your future clients or colleagues
Tasks
- Create a GI lesson for a specific age group of students related to topics we are covering
- We want to ensure distributed content so please check the plans of those student groups already signed up.
- You could do the same topic for a different age group or a different (connected?) topic for the same age group.
- Lesson sign up page see tab 2 for specific ideas or come up with your own
- Create instructor guidelines on when or how to use the lesson and provide any background background material the instructor might need
- Provide learning material for the students or guided research questions for older students
- Create practice application activities
- Create formal or informal assessment option(s)
Common errors
- Unit is not self-contained but includes google drive links
- Images are not created by you or identified as creative commons
- The unit is too complex for the learners (bring it down from what you think it should be) or instructors (fewer parts is good)
- The unit doesn’t follow the template
- No instructor guide
- Creators didn’t find the H5P activities and how to guides so tried to create their own
