3 Lesson Design

Lesson Design

We picture these lessons as being something that could be used with homeschooling or for enrichment. This means it is unlikely that the entire class and main teacher would be involved. Try to create a lesson that either does not need the main teacher but could be run by a parent, a classroom helper or by the student(s) themselves.

Lesson Structure Guidelines

The learning material should be contained within the ebook to the fullest extent possible and should not require the instructor to lecture. If a brief introduction is needed, please consider reading it yourself and recording the session. Share the link with Malone and she can get it in the book, if needed.

Application practice and assessment activities can be hands on but should either include readily available (and inexpensive materials) and or include links to coloring pages, etc.

The lesson should be at a level of vocabulary and skill set appropriate for the audience chosen. See the examples in the Examples section to compare the phrasing and activities for different grade levels.

Most lessons should take 30-50 min to complete.

The ebook contains lesson templates, instructor templates and examples. It also includes multiple sources of electronic or in person activities. You are expected to follow the templates but can create activities beyond those listed in the book.

  • Use the template assigned to your group. This template will ensure nothing is missed and is set up for accessibility. If you do not need a heading, please let it for now and add “NA”

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • Add alternative text to every image you place into your chapter.
    • See this chapter for more info
    • You can ask AI bots to create the alt text for you, too
  • Appropriately give credit to your images. They must be from open-source websites such as wikicommons. Or create your own!
    • See more image sources in this chapter
    • As students, you have access to image creation using Copilot.
    • You can also draw your own and scan them in.
    • If you want an anatomical image, clinical case type image or just struggle to find something, reach out to Malone. She has additional resources.
  • Use H5P content to elevate the lesson plan. Do NOT link a google slide deck or a google form for quizzes. The lesson should be self contained within this Pressbook.

    • Need an exception (escape room etc)? – see Malone
