2.5 – Word Workshop
What is a Morpheme?
In Word Workshop sections, we talk about morphemes and connectors. A morpheme is the smallest part of a word that has meaning.
Some words have only one morpheme, and some have more than one.
| Word | Morphemes | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| cat | cat | 1 morpheme: a small animal |
| cats | cat + s | “cat” (animal) + “s” (more than one cat) |
| happy | happy | 1 morpheme: feeling good |
| unhappy | un + happy | “un” (not) + “happy” (feeling good) = feeling bad |
What is a Connector?
A connector is a word that joins ideas or sentences together. It helps make your writing or speaking flow smoothly.
Examples:
| Connector | Definition | Sentence Example |
|---|---|---|
| AND | connects two similar ideas | I like apples and mangoes. |
| BUT | shows a difference | The class is difficult, but it is fun. |
