Have you heard the term “civic”? What might be some examples of “civic participation”?

How does this connect to the idea of “power of the people”?

Thinking Ahead:

Write answers to these questions (individually or in pairs) and share with the class – or just discuss them as a group!

  • What is “the press”, and what is its job?
  • Can you name countries that don’t have laws to protect freedom of the press?
  • What can happen in a country if the press, or media, doesn’t have free speech?
