16.6 – Final Essay Preparation

Sometimes when writing an essay, like you will do next, it’s best to start from the conclusion (final or ending part) and work backwards.  Start your essay by writing the final part on civic responsibility first.  Use the mind map that you created in class, and the information you learned by searching online.

  1. Write a “Draft”, or first version of your writing. Write specifically what you will do to participate in your community and, most importantly, explain why it’s important to you. Use the prompt below and write your paragraph on a piece of paper to use later when writing your final essay.

What can you do to increase your civic participation in U.S. society?

There are many ways that I can increase my civic participation in U.S. society.  In the coming weeks, months, and years, my goal is to:

1) ______________________________. The reason I choose to do this is ___________________________.

2) I also want to _______________________, because ___________________________.

3) Finally, I plan to __________________________. I want to do this because _____________________________.
