Let’s Review!
“The British King writes back”
1. Open your Gmail.
2. Now imagine how the king replied when he received the breakup letter in the previous module. A complete copy of the letter the king received is below:
| Dear British King,
We used to have a good relationship, but now we are starting to get mad. You used to leave us alone, but now you are starting to tax items that we use every day. How can we afford to live if you are taxing tea, sugar, and glass? We colonists find it unfair that we are not represented in the British Parliament. We feel that we don’t have a voice in our own lives and are now very upset! You are taxing us and we are not represented in government and we call that taxation without representation. It’s time to say goodbye! Sincerely, The American Colonists |
3. Write a short formal email from the king back to the colonists, saying “You will be sorry”. Use your own words and thoughts. Do not send the email yet. (This is the FIRST email draft).
4. Highlight the email text you wrote and copy it (right click and COPY). You now have a copy of the first email on a “clipboard” ready to use later.
5. Open a new tab and type “ChatGPT”.
6. In the instructions window (which looks like the image below), give the following prompt: “Correct any grammar and vocabulary mistakes in my email and explain what each mistake was. Then rewrite the email in a more formal way”.

7. After these instructions, paste into ChatGPT the original email text you had copied in Step 3 that was on the clipboard (right click and PASTE).
8. After ChatGPT generates the new email, highlight, and copy that new email (right click and COPY). You have now copied the SECOND email draft.
9. Go back to your email tab, scroll down your first email, and paste this second email under the first email that is already there.
10. Put your teacher’s email in the TO field. In the email, paste both your original draft and the second formal email that ChatGPT developed. Review the email revised by ChatGPT and make any edits or changes to make that it communicates exactly what you want to say.
11. If you want, copy any others you want to include in your email (remember the difference between CC and BCC).
12. Send the email to your teacher (both your original FIRST email draft and the corrected SECOND email draft should be in this email).
