Learning from Videos

How do we adjust closed captioning? How do we take notes from videos and complete an assignment?
As a class, watch the American Revolution: No Taxation without Representation! video (4 min). It’s about causes of the American Revolution. You may watch the video more than one time. You can also turn on close captioning “CC” (at the bottom of the video) to read what is said.

As you saw in the video, there were many reasons why the American colonists wanted to declare their independence from England.

You are now going to become a colonist and help finish a “break-up” letter to the King of England. A “break-up” letter is something you write when you don’t want to be with a person anymore.

You will see the unfinished break-up letter below. Using the answers in the box, pick the correct and most logical word or words to complete the sentence.

How can we afford to live if you are taxing ____________________, ____________________, and _____________________? We colonists find it unfair that we are not represented in the British ____________________. We feel that we don’t have a voice in our own lives and are now very upset! You are taxing us and we are not represented in government and we call that ____________________ ____________________ ___________________. It’s time to say goodbye!

Sincerely,
